A few months ago, I had a “liberal” conversation with someone very active and greatly respected within the Tokyo music community about the ins and outs of performing live. Pretty much at the same time, I had a bit of a drunken conversation about the possibility of getting a Pearl Jam cover band together. Literally two months and a handful of practices later, we had our first gig.
Over the last year or so, I have dabbled with singing live, but I tried to enjoy it and not overthink it.
I can honestly say that being on stage, and especially being the singer or “frontman” is not only something I didn’t think I could do, but strangely, it really channeled my creative energy. After presenting my game, and reaching a bit of a dead end with writing and performing original music, this project has kept me going and more importantly, helped me get to know some incredible musicians and people.
It was incredible experience, I learned a lot about my work ethic, collaborative capacity, creative process and most importantly, my mindset.
